Wall thickness does not affect pipe or tubing size. 1/2" L copper has the same outer diameter as 1/2" K or M copper. The same applies to pipe schedules. As a result, a slight increase in pressure losses is realized due to a decrease in flowpath as wall thickness is increased. In other words, 1 foot of 1/2" L copper has slightly less volume than 1 foot of 1/2 M copper.
Your water heater is an essential part of your home, heating water for showers, dishwashing, laundry and more. On average, a traditional water heater will last 8-12 years. The general consensus is that it’s better to replace your water heater with a new one than to repair one that’s 10 years old or more. Older models are less energy-efficient and thus more costly to run than newer models with better technology. Here are some indicators of when it may be time to replace an old water heater instead of repairing it:

When I am running hot water, suddenly ICY COLD water comes out of the dedicated hot water tap when moments before very hot water was coming out. Hot water comes from common hot water heaters in my condo complex. Why would icy cold water be coming out of a dedicated hot water system? I appreciate it may take a while for hot water to reach my 3rd floor suite but I get ICY COLD water where a nanosecond before very hot water was coming out of my tap. A person on the Strata Council went into the hot water heater room felt warm tanks and said nothing is wrong so end of conversation. I don't have the authority to bring in a professional. Something is not right. I've lived here for 20 years and this was never an issue. Now it is. Suggestions?
Polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) piping were produced experimentally in the 19th century, hit the US in the 1950’s, and is most commonly used in today's sewer systems. While PVC or ABS pipe can last for decades, the thin-walled pipe can be damaged by inadequate bedding/fill or ground settling and heavy root growth. Once a section of plastic pipe is damaged, the other connections may deteriorate over time or roots will damage another section of the line. This type of piping can last a long time if it is a quality pipe and the installation was done properly. Thinner-walled pipe flexes and is more susceptible to premature problems.

We called Austin when we noticed water leaking from the ceiling under the upstairs bathroom. He was upfront about the cost (it was a Saturday and that meant time and half) and was able to come to the house in under an hour. He took a look and then again, gave us the option to wait until Monday to cut the cost. We asked him to stay and he was very efficient and quick in diagnosing our problem. He was straight forward and didn't try to play any games or waste our time. We are so grateful for his incredible work and putting our minds at ease. He will certainly be the plumber we call, and refer our friends to, for any plumbing needs. We are extremely satisfied with his work!
